Hello everyone! Noday I am going to tell you about WIKI!!!

WHAT IS WIKI

Wiki is a web technology used for collaborative publishing on the web. Wiki is a type of server software that allows you to work with data on a remote server on the Web. Users interact with the software through a web interface that lets them read, edit and publish content.

Wikis have a wide range of educational applications, most of which can be combined within one wiki site.

  • FREE WIKI TOOLS

Wikispaces proves to be one of the best, highly reliable, easy to use and intuitive free wiki platforms to use as your wiki platform. With at least 100 MB of file storage space, it can prove sufficient for most academic needs of a small group. Recent classroom-oriented updates makes Wikispates your top choice for classroom wiki use.
    • Wikia offers a more modern look, has more features and a vast fan base for attracting commercially active communities — Twilight fans, healthy food fans and alike. Less suitable for educational use for incessant advertising on every page of your wiki.
    • ZohoWiki provides state-of-the-art interface and functions for a modern corporate-inclined wiki. Best for tech-savvy classrooms.
    • Wiki Site is a native WikiMedia-based free wiki hosting with limited features and resources.
    • WikiDot offers free plans for wiki sites with advertising. Standard wiki functionality.

  • I have studied WIKI experience and I want to say that all those resources are very usefull. There are such very interesting examples:

  • 1. TEFLPedia — A great example of a professional teachers’ community that comes together by means of a wiki site.

It will be very useful for teachers. This site helps to find the information they need and ask their colleagues. It is very informative and communicative.

               2.  Student Wiki Guide is ready-to-use student manual for Wikispaces.

This guide is very useful for students because it can help them navigate this site and how to use it in general is very detailed and understandable.

               3.  Using Wikispaces At UMB (presentation)could be used as an introductory presentation of Wikispaces. More in-depth instruction and clear structure will help your students quickly get used to the new platform.

               4. Richard Doyle, English Fifteen in 15 Weeks! is a fascinating ESP wiki-based project held at Penn State.

This course will teach how to teach English 15, the introductory rhetoric course required of all Penn State graduates. They are integrating Wiki Technology into pedagogy at the University of Pennsylvania. Educators have found that wiki pages help students learn to navigate effectively in a rapidly changing rhetorical ecology and also contribute to their development.

              5. Wikiversity, a Wikipedia-Like Learning Community is an example of a vivid and vibrant learning community operating with the help of wiki technology.

Wikiversity is a Wikimedia Foundation project devoted to learning resources, learning projects, and research for use in all levels, types, and styles of education from pre-school to university, including professional training and informal learning. They invite teachers, students, and researchers to join them in creating open educational resources and collaborative learning communities. To learn more about Wikiversity, try a guided tour.
